Mortar Repair Kit HRM
This versatile patching kit is ideal for repairing chips, cracks, broken off corners with limestone, sandstone, brick, terracotta, precast and concrete. This lime-based mortar is a breathable system which allows for vapor transmission. The kit enables you to patch common job site repairs.
Built for demanding site repairs
Historic Restoration Mortar (HRM) is formulated to breathe with the substrate, allowing trapped moisture to escape instead of forcing it deeper into the wall or slab. The result is a durable, vapor‑permeable patch that resists future spalling and discoloration.
Where it excels
-
Versatile substrates. Limestone, sandstone, brick, terra‑cotta, precast concrete - even porous or previously injected crack repairs.
-
Multiple repair modes. Skim‑coating pitted façades, rebuilding chipped corners, filling routed cracks, or creating neat Dutchman joints.
-
Job‑site flexibility. Three blend‑ready color bases (Buff, Gray, Neutral) can be inter‑mixed for spot‑on shade matching.

How to use HRM in the field
Always review the full instruction sheet supplied in the kit before mixing. The outline below streamlines crew training and bidding conversations.
Step 1 – Surface preparation
Remove loose material and dust with a stiff nylon brush. Substrates must be sound, clean, and slightly damp - never saturated - to ensure optimal bond.
Step 2 – Batch & color‑tune
In a clean cup, combine HRM powder with latex binder to a putty consistency. For custom tones, blend Buff, Gray, and Neutral in any ratio before adding binder.
Step 3 – Placement
Press the mix firmly into the cavity, overfilling by 1–2 mm. For skim coats, use a rubber float to force material into pits and pull off excess.
Step 4 – Texture & finish
While the patch is thumb‑print hard, shave flush with a margin trowel or dress with a damp sponge to mimic the surrounding texture. Allow to cure; no post‑polish required on most masonry.
Pro tips for higher ROI
- Keep a small atomizer handy - light misting prevents flash‑drying on porous substrates.
- Store-opened powders in sealed containers to maintain color integrity between projects.
